Shy's 2 Star Review of:
Roughing by Paige Matthews

This story was book 3 of the series, and while I have not read 1 or 2, I didn't feel like I was missing anything for not having read them. I don't think it would have made me enjoy this book any more had I done so.
For starters, I found it hard to follow the time lines at some points during the story. What day the characters were on seemed to change and it sometimes gave me pause. I had to either stop and think about it or go back and check because I thought it was something different.
I also found the characters, particularly Brianna, a bit hard to connect to or even like at times. Her emotions and reactions to things seemed a bit over the top. She was a huge jerk to Colin even over things that weren't completely in his control. I get that she was afraid to be hurt again, but I just felt that her level of anger and hostility toward him wasn't justified given the circumstances. She often talked about hating lying to her best friend Kenzie, but I didn't always know what she was lying or felt the need to be so secretive about. There was a moment when Brianna mentions trying to kill herself out of hurt I guess after Colin left, and yet it was never discussed again for the rest of the book. I didn't get how such a huge deal could be glossed over so easily and then Brianna and Colin are all over each other minutes later. I also don't approve of mentioning other author's books and speaking negatively about them. 50 shades was mentioned as being "horrific" and I didn't understand how that comment was necessary or in any way added to the story.
Colin was a decent character, but I'm not a huge fan of guys calling girls certain words, even when the girl in question is terrible. It seemed like Amber was ok to have sex with but once he had Brianna back Amber became a b***h, c**t, and a t**t.
I felt this book was a bit drawn out but there were a lot of steamy scenes, hockey players, and a lot of drama. However I personally, wasn't a fan of this book and would not be able to recommend.
